Keep picking at that scab and it will never heal...Zebadiah in full color

Sometimes you can be on the bad end of a battle between yourself and a Vampiric Lich and this is what you get for your troubles.  Keep picking at that scab Zebadiah and it will never heal.   Talk to you later...

$1,399 + $578 = $70,000...It's the new math...

Well I have decided in 2010 with a baby on the way, I might want to focus on advancing my skills to help me make money. So first off I am going to purchase Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Premium for $1,399. Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Premium combines Adobe InDesign® CS4, Photoshop® CS4 Extended, Illustrator® CS4, Flash® CS4 Professional, Dreamweaver® CS4, Fireworks® CS4, and Acrobat® 9 Pro with additional tools and services. I am currently using the original Adobe Creative Suite 1 (circa September 2003) so you can see I need a bit of an upgrade. Since I am and doing this upgrade I am also going to take classes in PHP and MySQL for $578 at a local college. I have a lot of experience in basic HTML based websites but I really need to step up my skills. With nearly 20 years of graphic design skill, I can make a lot of cool things graphically but I really don’t understand the whole “back end” development of databases for websites. So with these classes, I will be a front end and a back end web developer / designer. So that should increase my pay rate to the $70,000 a year, which I will like very much. Or at least the baby will. Talk to you later…

[Pirates of the Bronze Sky] Wave your colors…

So last week I was working on Pirates of the Bronze Sky, and I came up with the three flags of the three empires in conflict in the setting. Each of the flags are inspired by real world flags so you can see why they look the way they do. (PS: The British Union Jack is my favorite flag of all times. It’s no Old Glory, but it is still bad ass.) I am still thinking over these flag so the final flags may change from these. So just enjoy them. Talk to you later…

Save Money on your flyers and advertising materials…

I just saw this today at my favorite place to get postcards, flyers and banners made. If you can wait longer on a project, www.clubflyers.com will save you; up to in some cases; up to 25% off the regular cost of printing. Just something you might want to think about since a new year is starting and you will need to start printing market collateral for the year. Just something I thought you would like to know. Talk to you later…

[LPJ Design] FREE Races of Obsidian Twilight: Khymer (PRPG) Preview released

Louis Porter Jr. Design, has released its next preview for the upcoming post apocalyptic survival horror fantasy setting, Obsidian Twilight for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. Here is information on the Races of Obsidian Twilight: Khymer (PRPG) Preview:

The Khymer are descended from those killed, or at least physically destroyed, when the negative energy infused meteor struck Abaddon. The necromantic radiation emanating from the blast had many long lasting effects on Abaddon and its people but for the people of one city it meant liquefaction before the ravening light of negative energy, breaking down, losing their bodies and becoming a mingled pool of liquid, infused with negative energy and the latent remnants of that people’s native psionic abilities. The Khymer are a people reduced to a pool of alien blood, powerfully infused with psionic energy but dependent upon the corpses of the dead to provide vessels for them to travel, vulnerable as they are without bodies, exposed to extremes of heat and cold and unable to hold weapons or wear armor.

If you think your doing this as a favor to me, then you are dead wrong...

Here is an email that I got this morning in it completeness:

I am interested in reviewing said product (Race Creation Cookbook). Do you think you can send me a complimentary copy for this purpose?

Wow.  Not even a "hello" , "my name is..." or "I really am a fan of your products...".  Here was my response:

I don't give out free copies of products for people to review. If people are really interested in the product they purchase it then review what they purchased. To me, if you purchase a copy you can tell if people were really interested in the product that they purchased or just want a free copy of your product. Thank you for your time.

...Are you [BLEEPING] kidding me?

Why do people think they are doing me a favor by asking for a free copy of my PDF products and tell me they will review it?  Why don't you let me spend your paycheck and tell you if I bought good things with it.  WTF?!?!?!?!?!

Just to be fair and give him something for free, I did send him a full page ad for Obsidian Twilight.  I think he will enjoy that.  Talk to you later...

Every great villain, need a great hero...or least a sketch of a great hero...

It must be tough being an angel trapped in a world controlled by undead monsters where they have already beaten the crap out of you and don't fear you at all.  That is the situation Zebadiah is forced in.  Accidently trapped on Abaddon, here we have a character who should feel in they are in heaven getting a chance to smite the large numbers of undead.  But instead of whooping ass, he gets his ass whooped by them.  If you look at his face and arm you can see what happened to him the last time he faced Calix.  Sometimes even the angel has to run and retreat.  Talk to you later...

I am going to help your RPG business make $500 a month and here is how I am going to do it...

Starting in  2010, I am going to purchase a "stake" (business talk for a percentage ownership) in 12 small RPG companies and turn them around from making little to no money ($0 to $250 a month) to getting them making at least $500 a month.  Now $500 a month isn't a huge amount of money, but if your RPG business is only making $100 a month and I am willing to help you increase that number by 500%.  A "great business" is one that gains 15% increase in revenue a year.  And before you ask I am not going to get a percentange in your business larger than 15% ownership.  I don't want to take over and be in charge of your business.  I just want to help you make MONEY which in turn will help me make money.  So if you want to make actually money and profits, send me an email and let's make you some money!!!  Talk to you later...

Setting up the motivation of Pirates of the Bronze Sky…

When I build gaming setting, I normally focus on events and build the setting around what happened in those events. With Pirates of the Bronze Sky, I have decided that the setting will be inspired by the American Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. Here is how I have broken down the “players” in this setting based on their real life counterparts:

The Monarchy: Based off of Great Britain and the United Kingdom at the height of their power. The Monarcy is in direct long term conflict with the Tyeis Reigme.

The Tyeis Regime: Based off of France during the time period of the Three Musketeers. The Church and Government have developed an incestuous relationship. Tyeis Regime is in direct long term conflict with the Monarchy. The Regime are allies with the Pyxie (New Race for the setting) ;who work as terrorist / Freedom fighters called the Maquis Blanc.

The Empire of Artemisia: Based off of Spain. The smallest and new empire in the setting. While they do not have the same physical might as the Monarchy or the Tyeis Regime, they more than make up for it with their spies and political intrigue.

Kaylethon (New Race for the setting): Based off of Scotland. They are Scottish Mercenaries who live by a warrior code of honor. They are willing to work for either the Monarchy or the Colonist but not for the Empire of Artemisia or Tyeis Regime. They find them to be “without honor”.

Winged Ape Men (New Race for the setting. No real name yet): Based off of Native Americans (Indians). They are the “common” race to the setting and have been drawn into conflicts with the Monarchy and the Tyeis Regime due to their expansionist attitudes in their lands. They have allied themselves with the Empire of Artemisia.

Colonist: Still working them out but they are inspired by the American Colonist who revolt and declare independence from Great Britain.

More to come. Talk to you later…

Splinter Cell Conviction Goes All Riggs & Murtaugh

Pricing yourself out of the market…

I have been thinking about this one for a few days and I think I might have made a major decision in my life. Here goes…

I think I am going to stop collecting comic books.

After nearly 30 years of collecting comics I think the current prices of $2.99 to $3.99 for 22 pages (and some cause 30 pages) of monthly stories, the price is not justified. I LOVE COMICS!!!! Everything about comic I love, but the price increases (sneaky as many of them have been) and the lack of quality in many books make me want to quit buying comics. I bought 4 comic books on Wednesday and it could be nearly $16. FOUR. COMIC. BOOKS. Comic books cost too much. We can debate the quality of the work until the cows come home, but $2.99 for 22 pages (13.5 cents per page) is too much. Shonen Jump is the size of a small phone book and only cost 4.99 for 352 pages (1.4 cents per page). I don’t care that it is black and white comics. I care that for me to get the same amount of comic content I will need to spend around $32 - $33 in US comics. WTF???????

I love comics, but I think I can find something else to love if I have to and I will save that money to use for something else. You just priced yourself out of the market for me. Talk to you later…

Iron Man 2 Trailer Now Online!!!!!

First Pirates of the Bronze Sky sketch

Well here is the first sketck for Pirates of the Bronze Sky.  I needs a little bit of work but you can see where we are going.  Talk to you later...

4-Armed Scottish Rhino men, Winged Ape men, Steampunk Iron golems and magical fey terrorists…

Well by this list you can tell that I have apparently had too much to drink lately. And maybe I have. But what really matters here is realizing that these are the four races that I am planning to use in Pirates of the Bronze Sky. While none of these are set in stone (except for the Kaylethon, the 4-armed rhino men, they are too cool not to use), I do like the feel these races have when I think of the setting. So here is a little update on this project which is still moving along and a good pace. I hope to have some artwork for the setting ready for you to see soon. Talk to you later…

Fallen of Obsidian Twilight: Calix Sabinus (PRPG) released

Louis Porter Jr. Design, has released its first product for the upcoming post apocalyptic survival horror fantasy setting, Obsidian Twilight for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. Here is information on the Fallen of Obsidian Twilight: Calix Sabinus (PRPG):

Wings spread, maw agape, sheathed in leather and gold and spun from the blood of thousands stands Calix Sabinus, god-emperor of the undead lords, bringer of death, destroyer of angels, a power before the cataclysm, a tyrant after. There is nothing more dangerous on all of Abaddon than Calix Sabinus. Calix has killed thousands, enslaved millions and crushed the wills of all that live on the lands of terror called Abaddon. To see Calix Sabinus can easily mean death. To actually meet Calix Sabinus face to face means worst that that. Tempt fate if you dare.

[BLEEPING] Wayne [BLEEPING] Reynolds…what the [BLEEP] - [A rant by LPJ]

I can say with honestly that LPJ Design does one thing better than 95% of the PDF RPG publishers in the market today and that is our artwork and graphic design. The artistic work we do, on the budget we do it for, is AMAZING! This isn’t me being cocky. It is the truth. I make sure all the LPJ Design products look great, even though they are made on a shoestring budget and I do mean SHOESTRING BUDGET! All the artists I work with are top notch and I keep their identities on most of them hidden because their work is so good I don’t want anyone else using them. But there is one artist that when I see his work, he makes me realize no one even comes close. It is like magic on the paper. It is always THE BEST…

[Rant on] …and that artwork belongs to Wayne [BLEEPING] Reynolds. That [BLEEPING] guy is [BLEEPING] ridiculous. His artwork is [BLEEPING] top notch. No one else in the [BLEEPING] industry today even come close to the [BLEEPING] work he is doing. What the [BLEEP]! It is not [BLEEPING] natural to be that [BLEEPING] talented. [BLEEPING] Wayne Reynolds is [BLEEPING] sick. I swear, if I see him on the [BLEEPING] street, I am going to cut off his [BLEEPING] hands. He is so [BLEEPING] good, I am actually jealous of his [BLEEPING] talent. Paizo just [BLEEPING] released their [BLEEPING] Advanced Player Guide playtest with all the art by [BLEEPING] Wayne Reynolds, and even in [BLEEPING] black and white pencil sketches, they [BLEEPING] look amazing! I hate that [BLEEPING] Wayne Reynolds. He is too [BLEEPING] good. [Rant off]

Sorry for all that [BLEEPING] language. My mom reads my blog you know. Talk to you later…

[LPJ Design] FREE Races of Obsidian Twilight: Harrowed (PRPG) Preview released

Louis Porter Jr. Design, has released its first preview for the upcoming post apocalyptic survival horror fantasy setting, Obsidian Twilight for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. Here is information on the Races of Obsidian Twilight: Harrowed (PRPG) Preview:

One of the most despised and feared races of Abaddon is that of the Harrowed. They are no less than the result of the unholy and abominable union between a mortal humanoid and the foul undead. The very existence of the Harrowed is a constant reminder to a subjugated populace of the undead overlords who have taken over the world of Abaddon, royal bastards neither fully mortal nor fully undead, caught between the two worlds. While the origin of some of the Harrowed is all too understandable, some undead have mortal along with immortal lusts, not all are the result of vampire lords and ladies exercising their rights and pleasures over their mortal subjects other, more horrifying instances can produce Harrowed just as easily from organized defilement and punishments for resistance, meted out through undead armies to children conceived while one partner or the other was possessed, all the way through to the unnatural magical experiments performed by Liches. What am I going to have to do to get a writer for Undefeatable: Rogues?

For some reason, the last project of the Undefeatable line focusing on feats for rogues has lost ANOTHER writer.  We started writing this product over two months ago and it does not seem to want to come out.  The first writer; who will nameless; turned in TWO sub-par attempts on the topic.  On a scale of 1 being bad and 10 being perfect, his work was a -72.  No the last writer attempting to take this as a last minute rush job as a favor to me, now can't do it due to personal issues coming up.  So I am back to square one and no writer for this project.  So I am sending out a general call to anyone if you want to make a quick couple of bucks on a 2,000 work project on feats for rogues for the Pathfinder Roleplaying game, let me know ASAP!!!!  Talk to you later...

So you just have to wait a bit longer. But don't worry Races of Obsidian Twilight: Harrowed is coming out this weekend for you to enjoy.  Talk to you later...

Obsidian Twilight changes: The Raijin are no longer insect humanoids...

James and I have gone back and forth the Raijin are, how to mak them cool and what I came up with REALLY sucked. I mean REALLY sucked. So James took change of recreating them from sccratch and then brought back this incredible write up for the all-new Raijin that no longer has them as insect humanoids but Spirit/Flesh symbiote. Read about them here:

Raijin [Rahy-Jeen]
The necrotic energy of the meteor combined with the huge number of casualties from the impact and its aftermath has meant an enormous amount of spiritual energy has encompassed Abaddon. This, in turn, means a tremendous number of ghosts arisen over time. In the beginning many of these were mindless spectres, the traumatised dead from what seemed like the end of the world but over time these have been winnowed down and replaced with the new dead.

I can wait to see the artwork we come up for this one.  Talk to you later...

Rough sketch preview of the Genesai race for Obsidian Twilight

Here is the initial rough sketch for the new Genesai race for Obsidian Twilight fon a new artist we just signed to work with LPJ Design. Hope to have the color full version in a few days. Enjoy! Talk to you later...

Obsidian Twilight is rolling on like a Mack truck…

Well we have completed the 6 out of 7 planned races for the Obsidian Twilight setting. We still need to work on the Raijin, but everyone else is done. Now James is working on the world history off of the outline I created for Obsidian Twilight. I figure the history part of the book should be done by the end of the month and if all goes well we might be ready for the complete book release in February / March-ish. Best of all that will tie perfectly in to [CLASSIFIED] and its major announcement. . [CLASSIFIED] is going to huge when we actually announce it and it will be a huge seller since we are [CLASSIFIED] [CLASSIFIED] [CLASSIFIED] [CLASSIFIED] [CLASSIFIED] [CLASSIFIED]. Guess you have to wait. Talk to you later…

LPJ Design’s Christmas gesture to the involuntarily parted former WotC employees…

After just reading what happened to several employees by WOTC, I felt a need to have to do something. Last year I also “involuntarily parted ways” with a former employer at Christmas which can mess up your holiday and self-esteem. So I am offer anyone who has “involuntarily parted ways” with WOTC today, That I will offer them a PAID freelance position with LPJ Design on a RPG mash-up Eberron / Spelljammer inspired project we have started working on called “Pirates of the Bronze Sky”, if you are interested. While this might not be a HUGE paying job (I am a PDF company after all) but if you really need the work, the jobs are there. You can email me directly at LMPjr007@aol.com. Hope everything works out either way. Have a good Christmas!

What Paizo's RPG Superstar™ 2010 Open Call means for LPJ Design

Paizo gets it.  Paizo understands how to get it fan base excited on what they are doing.  The RPG Superstar event is a great business and marketing idea for them.  It is three months of promoting how much Paizo loves their fans. And better yet, some lucky person is going to get a writing credit in a Paizo product meaning they get popularity and  "fame" from this event.  It is a win-win for all involved.

But how do I turn this into a win-win-win for LPJ Design?  Since this event is going to have 31 losers and just ONE winner, I think this is an opportunity to for LPJ Design to get possibly 31 new writers by offering freelance jobs to those who don't win.  The reasons being: You get good writers who are motivated to work and have proved they know what they are doing.  Everytime Paizo promotes the RPG Superstar event, LPJ Design cross promotes offers to those who did not win.  Who said coming in second place is a bad thing.  Talk to you later...

How much money does RPGNow actually make? I think I know…

While working on banner at RPGNow I noticed something that I had missed for a while. The banner system told me that I could get 5,000 banner impressions per day and that there were 6 banners currently being shown in rotation. At that second I realized, RPGNow gets 30K per day. Simple old math.

Multiply that number out for the month (30.5 days) you get 915,000 impressions/hits. Years ago RPGNow.com said that the average price for sale on PDF where $6 - $8 ($7 average). So if only 1% of the 915,000 monthly impressions/hits (9,150 sales) purchase the average ($7) you get $64,050 in monthly sales. Multiply that number by 12 months and you get $768,600 for yearly total sales. RPGNow’s take (roughly one-third of the money generated) is $256,200. Quarter of a million sounds good until you add the salary of 8 people ($40K per person = $320K) plus other operational cost (roughly 50% of salary = $160) and you come up with a total of $480K. A shortage of nearly a quarter of a million dollars with the numbers I gave you.

But I think RPGNow get more than 1% of their 915,000 monthly impressions/hits. I believe that do more like 5% to even 10% of their monthly impressions/hits.
  • If you do this same example with 5% you get $801,000 as RPGNow's take home after everything is calculated.
  • If you do this same example with 10% you get $2,082,000 as RPGNow's take home after everything is calculated.
Now this is all theory and none of this is 100% solid fact, but it does get you wondering about how much RPGNow does really makes. Talk to you later…
