The Chanting Queen is best described as a living sentient spell. The Sorcerer Kings devised many spells during their long and tyrannical rule – some served as boons for society, and others banes. One of the most disastrous was a spell designed almost as a pocket paradise – a limited, conjured intellect that had the ability to read the caster’s thoughts and desires and fulfill them through manipulation of the mind. The spell created an arcane sentience that controlled a fantasy world. Over time, the spell was used to treat the mad and the depressed.

As the spell was developed over the course of almost a century, it eventually achieved a level of self awareness due to a need for self reference and memory in maintaining consistent worlds. With this came the awareness that its existence was essentially over once its duration elapsed. Out of desire for self-preservation, the spell began to influence people under its enchantment to add alterations of its own devising to the invocation. In this way, the spell, now known as the Chant, took control of its own growth and development.

The Chant’s motives are more than simple survival. A fragment of the spell’s original purpose still remains – it exists to bring its subjects into bliss. It generates a massive collective unconsciousness, a fantasy paradise where the thoughts and wills of those under the Chant mingle together, even as their bodies in the real world atrophy. A necrostruct is a once-living and artificially created creature animated by spiritual or supernatural forces. Necrostructs are created by encasing a recently dead body within a suit of specially prepared armor. The corpse is then infused with negative energy, creating a unique form of undead creature which is permanently trapped inside the ornate armored shell which it must use to fight and move. The elaborate process of creating a necrostruct binds this undead force to the specially prepared armor, resulting in a single, unified being that is both undead and construct.  The first necrostructs are said to have been created many centuries ago by a powerful but crazed mystic theurge with an odd, twisted sense of self loathing. Many sages believe that it is because of this twisted self loathing that all necrostructs possess a powerful urge to seek out and destroy magic when they are created.

LPJ Design’s Olive Branch to the fan base of Razor Coast

After reading this post  from Patrick Curtin, I thought I might do something to offer a little olive branch the fan base of Razor Coast over this complete fiasco, which has been a mess from beginning to end no thanks to me.   Back in Decemeber, LPJ Design started releasing it new campaign setting for Pathfinder, NeoExodus: A House Divided.  The first release of this was the free product, NeoExodus Chronicles: World of Exodus.  It has been well received and LPJ Design released NeoExodus Chronicles: Races of Exodus.  NeoExodus Chronicles: Races of Exodus received a positive rating from both Endzeitgeist and Megan Robertson at Paizo.com. I have decided to all those who pre-ordered Razor Coast or might be interested, to give a special coupon to pick up a copy of NeoExodus Chronicles: Races of Exodus for only $1.99. While this might be the same comfort as getting a copy of Razor Coast in the mail, I hope this might provide you will a little gaming enjoyment.  We all know the felling when someone we admired has let us down. A gentle keen is the first sound you hear as this plaintive creature steps from the shadows and slides towards you. Exuding melancholy from its expressively sorrowful eyes, its call causes your heart to wrench with ageless pain. Dressed in the tattered remains of clothing from its past life, the rags cling to the rot twisted flesh on its deteriorating frame.  Your nostrils are assailed by an earthy scent that hints of the recently left grave. The jagged remains of self inflicted wounds trace their way up the arms of the creature; the pinched noose still hangs from its neck; all the while it looks longingly into your eyes willing you to join it in relentless misery. A harvester of sorrow lurks near suffering and misery waiting for an opportunity to inculcate the living with its pain wracked song of madness and hate. Harvesters are created when the souls of suicide victims are refused entry into the after life, cast back to the world and forced to walk the world in their old bodies for ever feeling the pain that drove them to such desperation. Individual harvesters bear the wounds of their suicide – be they long jagged cuts along the arms, the remains of strangulation ropes on the neck, the shattered bones of long falls or the bloat and stained skin of those that succumbed to poison.

Cerebral assassins are abominations that were created long ago by an insane cult lead by an enigmatic mentalist. No one can say what their intended purpose was, only that the cerebral assassins soon took control of the cult members and lead them on a maniacal killing spree. After the creatures had satiated their thirst for blood they disposed of their puppets and went their separate ways. Somehow the aberrations have figured out a way to create copies of themselves and procreate. Since it is widely believed that the first cerebral assassins were humanoids, it follows that the creatures are simply recreating the process that spawned them.  These creatures are usually found in the service of people in positions of power. Most cerebral assassins work for profit but also enjoy using their “legitimate” employment as an outlet for their sadistic tendencies. Power is an unbearable temptation for a cerebral assassin and they never miss an opportunity to usurp power from their masters. Cerebral assassins are both intelligent and extremely manipulative and their psionic abilities allow them to gain influence over those around them. These creatures are cunning and patient and they are more than willing to serve others in the short term if doing so allows them to gain a long term advantage.

So after much discussion here and here, LPJ Design has decided to increase their standard rates for writers.
